About Selkoraha

Who is Selkoraha for?

Selkoraha is built for anyone who wants to estimate their own financial figures in Finland: employees, jobseekers, families, immigrants, students and entrepreneurs. It especially serves speakers of Finnish, Russian and English who want clear answers without bureaucratic jargon.

The calculators give an indicative estimate to help you prepare for dealing with the authorities – but the final decision is always made by the authority (the Tax Administration, Kela or Migri).

How is the data kept up to date?

Each calculator’s figures are based on the law and on values published by the authorities. The data is split into yearly modules (2026 values on their own, for example), and every calculator page has a source list and the date the data was last checked.

When a law or a euro amount changes, we update that calculator’s data and its verification date. That way you can always see what a calculation is based on.

Is Selkoraha free, and is it official advice?

The service is completely free and needs no login. Selkoraha shows no ads inside the calculators; some pages may carry labelled partner links (to banking services, for example) that help fund the project.

Selkoraha provides general information, not official tax, legal or financial advice. We are neither an authority nor a bank. For important decisions, verify the details with the authority or a professional.

Who writes and checks the content?

Selkoraha’s articles and calculators are made by Palvemax OY. Every euro amount and percentage is checked against the authority’s website or the law before publication, and the source is named under the calculator. Articles show both the publication date and the date of the latest update.

If you spot a mistake or an outdated figure, write to info@palvemax.fi. We will fix it and record the change in the corrections log below.

Corrections log

21 September 2026, student loan and loan compensation: the state guarantee corrected to €850 a month (from 1 August 2024, previously €650), and the compensation deadline clarified: target time + 0.5 academic years for a UAS degree or a bachelor’s alone, + 1 academic year for a master’s-level degree. The fix covers the article, the calculator and its texts.

21 September 2026, general housing allowance: corrected to say the allowance is also paid for right-of-occupancy and part-ownership homes, not only rentals. The article now has the full maximum-cost table and income limits.

21 September 2026, student financial aid: the deadline for voluntarily returning excess aid corrected to the end of April of the following year. The article now lists the income limit for every number of aid months.
