Earnings-related unemployment allowance calculator (ansiopäiväraha) 2026
The earnings-related unemployment allowance (ansiopäiväraha) is paid by an unemployment fund (not Kela) and requires fund membership and a 12-month employment condition. On a salary of about €3,000/mo it is roughly €81 per working day, or about €1,740/mo (the first 40 payment days).
The allowance consists of a basic component (€37.21/day) and an earnings component — 45% of the difference between the daily wage and the basic component up to the breakpoint. Duration is staggered. Enter your salary — the calculator estimates your allowance.
Calculate your ansiopäiväraha
Enter your gross salary before unemployment (excluding holiday bonus). The calculator applies the 3.83% deduction.
A 3.83% deduction (TyEL, 2026) is taken from the salary, which is then divided by 21.5 to get the daily wage. Holiday bonus is not included.
Requires unemployment fund membership and a 12-month employment condition. Without fund membership an unemployed person gets Kela's yleistuki (which replaced the basic unemployment allowance on 1.5.2026).

The earnings-related allowance is paid by an unemployment fund, not Kela. It is based on the established salary during the employment-condition period; the holiday bonus and a 3.83% deduction are removed and the sum divided by 21.5. The full allowance is at most 90% of the daily wage and at least the basic component. It is paid 5 days a week for at most 300/400/500 days depending on work history, and is staggered over time. Child increases ended 1.4.2024 and the increased earnings component is no longer granted. This is an estimate; the fund confirms the final amount.
How is the earnings-related unemployment allowance (ansiopäiväraha) calculated?
The allowance consists of a basic component and an earnings component. The basic component is €37.21/working day in 2026 (the same as Kela's basic benefit). For the earnings component, the holiday bonus and a statutory 3.83% deduction (2026) are removed from your gross salary before unemployment, and the result is divided by 21.5 to get a daily wage. The earnings component is 45% of the difference between the daily wage and the basic component up to the breakpoint (€3,534.95/month, i.e. €164.42/day), and 20% of the part above it. The full allowance is the basic + earnings component, but at most 90% of the daily wage. As unemployment continues the allowance is staggered: 80% after 40 paid days and 75% after 170 days. The fund pays it 5 working days a week, so the monthly estimate is the daily amount × 21.5.
How is the earnings-related allowance calculated in 2026?
The daily wage is derived from the monthly wage (excluding holiday bonus), less a 3.83% TyEL deduction, divided by 21.5. The allowance = basic component €37.21/day + earnings component: 45% of the difference between the daily wage and the basic component up to the breakpoint (€164.42/day) and 20% above it. The whole allowance is at most 90% of the daily wage.
Duration is staggered: the full amount for 40 payment days, then 80% (days 41–170) and 75% (after 170). The allowance is paid for at most 300–500 days depending on work history and age.
Child increases were removed on 1.4.2024 and the increased earnings component on 1.1.2025, so they are no longer paid. If you are not a fund member you receive Kela's yleistuki. The allowance is taxable income.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the earnings-related allowance on a €3,000 salary?
About €81 per working day, i.e. roughly €1,740/mo for the first 40 payment days. After that the amount is staggered down to 80% and later 75%. The allowance is taxable income.
Who pays the earnings-related allowance?
An unemployment fund pays it, not Kela. It requires fund membership and meeting the 12-month employment condition. If you are not a fund member, Kela pays yleistuki.
What is the difference between ansiopäiväraha and yleistuki?
Ansiopäiväraha is earnings-related and based on your pay (paid by the fund). Yleistuki is Kela's flat basic security (about €800/mo), available without fund membership. The earnings-related allowance is usually clearly larger.
How does the amount taper over time?
The full allowance is paid for 40 payment days, then 80% (days 41–170) and 75% (after 170). The maximum duration is 300–500 days depending on work history and age.
Does part-time work affect the allowance?
Yes, pay is adjusted: income from part-time or gig work reduces the allowance, but total income is higher than the allowance alone. Adjustment is based on the income in the payment period.
