How the calculator works
The calculator takes the selected occupation’s figures from table 15au of Statistics Finland’s Structure of Earnings statistics. They are the total earnings of full-time employees in October 2024: the median, the average and the limits of the lowest and highest tenths. Occupations are grouped by the classification of occupations, and you can move from the major groups to more detailed occupations. When you enter your own gross pay, the calculator places it among the pay of the occupation and of all full-time employees.
What the figures show and where they come from
The figures come from Statistics Finland’s Structure of Earnings statistics (palkkarakennetilasto), which covers every employer sector: companies, central government, municipalities and the wellbeing services counties. They are based on October 2024 pay reported to the Incomes Register, and Statistics Finland published them as final on 8 June 2026. Only full-time employees are included: those whose regular weekly hours are at least 90% of the normal working time in their sector. To compare part-time pay, convert it to a full-time figure first.
Total earnings (kokonaisansio) include basic pay, supplements and benefits in kind, plus pay for overtime and additional work. One-off items such as performance bonuses and holiday bonuses (lomaraha) are not included. Earnings for regular hours (säännöllisen työajan ansio) also leave overtime out, so they make the better comparison if you do not work overtime. All amounts are gross.
The median is the middle wage: half earn less and half earn more. The average is usually higher, because the largest salaries pull it up. The pay range shows where the middle 80% of employees fall: the lowest tenth earned at most its lower end and the highest tenth at least its upper end.
Occupations follow Statistics Finland’s classification of occupations (Ammattiluokitus 2010). Ten major groups divide into groups and these into more detailed occupations, and the calculator lets you move between the levels. Table 15au has 695 rows, of which 599 are here: occupations whose median Statistics Finland does not publish are left out, and so are groups with a single sub-group carrying the same figures. The medians of police officers, court lawyers and mail carriers, for example, are not published. The figure can then often be found one level up: mail carriers are part of Mail carriers and sorting clerks.
The figures describe October 2024. According to the index of wage and salary earnings (ansiotasoindeksi), pay rose by an average of 4.7% from the last quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026 (preliminary figure). Rises have differed between sectors, so the calculator shows the statistics as they are and does not scale them up. The minimum pay in a sector is in the collective agreement pay tables.

Frequently asked questions about pay by occupation
What is the average salary in Finland?
According to Statistics Finland, the average total earnings of full-time employees were €4,075 a month in October 2024 and the median €3,615. The average is higher than the median because the largest salaries pull it up. The median describes ordinary pay better: half of full-time employees earn less and half earn more.
What does median pay mean?
The median is the middle wage when all wages are put in order: half earn less and half earn more. A few very large salaries move the median far less than they move the average.
Are these gross or net figures?
Gross: before tax and the employee’s contributions. You can work out what you take home with the net salary calculator.
What do total earnings include?
Basic pay, supplements and benefits in kind, plus pay for overtime and additional work. One-off items such as performance bonuses and holiday bonuses (lomaraha) are not included. The calculator also shows the median of earnings for regular hours, which leaves overtime pay out.
Why are some occupations missing?
Statistics Finland does not publish figures that are confidential or not meaningful to present. The medians of police officers, court lawyers and mail carriers, for example, are not published. The figure can then often be found one level up: mail carriers are part of Mail carriers and sorting clerks.
How recent are the figures?
They describe October 2024 earnings, and Statistics Finland published them as final on 8 June 2026. According to the index of wage and salary earnings, pay rose by an average of 4.7% from the last quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026 (preliminary figure). Rises have differed between sectors, so the calculator does not scale the statistics up.
How do I compare my own pay?
Enter your full-time monthly pay before tax. The calculator tells you whether it is below or above the occupation’s lowest-tenth limit, median and highest-tenth limit, and where it falls among all full-time employees. If you do not work overtime, compare your pay with the median of earnings for regular hours as well.
Which occupations are the best paid?
At the four-digit level of the classification, the highest median in 2024 was that of managing directors and chief executives, €12,520 a month. Next came financial and insurance services branch managers (€9,641) and specialist medical practitioners (€8,958). The comparison includes occupations with at least 1,000 full-time employees.
How much do women and men earn?
Across all occupations, women’s median total earnings were €3,376 a month in October 2024 and men’s €3,888, so women’s median was 87% of men’s. This does not compare people doing the same job: women and men partly work in different occupations. The calculator shows women’s and men’s medians within an occupation when Statistics Finland has published them.
Where do the figures come from?
From Statistics Finland’s Structure of Earnings statistics (table 15au). It is based on October pay reported to the Incomes Register and covers every employer sector. Full-time employees are those whose regular weekly hours are at least 90% of the normal working time in their sector. The data are open data from Statistics Finland (CC BY 4.0).
