What is yleistuki in 2026?
Yleistuki is the unemployed person’s basic security that replaced the basic unemployment allowance (peruspäiväraha) and the labour market subsidy (työmarkkinatuki) on 1 May 2026 (Act 48/2026). It is €37.21 per day, about €800 per month, paid for five weekdays a week.
Unlike the previous basic security, yleistuki is means-tested: capital income and other non-wage income can reduce it. The earnings-related allowance (ansiopäiväraha) did not change.

What reduces yleistuki?

The waiting period is the first 5 weekdays, and the benefit is not paid for weekends. Receiving yleistuki requires registering as a jobseeker on Job Market Finland (Työmarkkinatori).
Who is the means test new for?
The basic unemployment allowance had no means test, so it is new for its former recipients. For a person under 25 living with their parents, the benefit can also be reduced by the parents’ income if it exceeds the limit.
