Family reunification income requirement in Finland 2026

Family reunification requires a secure income, and the threshold is stated as net income (the amount left after tax). It is calculated from family size and municipality: in the capital region, a family of one adult and one child needs €1,820 net/month (adult €1,210 + child €610).

These thresholds have been in force since 1 November 2024. Below are the amounts by family member and region.

The amounts are added together. A family of two adults and two children in the capital region, for example, needs €1,210 + €610 + €610 + €480 = €2,910 net/month.

Net or gross, and who does it apply to?

For family reunification and for students the threshold is net income; for work-based permits it is a gross salary. Income can be shown through salary, business income or savings — social benefits that secure a basic livelihood (such as social assistance) are not counted.

A family member of a Finnish citizen is generally not required to show income. Family members of a third-country national usually are. Migri makes the final assessment.
